Jarvis is a Fox Red English Labrador born in August of 2022 in the Cape of Massachusetts and a descendant of JJF. He was Board & Trained at Freedom Labradors / Common Sense K9 by Chelsea Newcomb. I always explain to those who inquire about my decision to Board & Train, since for me, it was a matter of my capabilities and knowing that she has a high success rate for a reason.
Because of her successful breeding and training program, he is eager to learn, work, and please. Jarvis has worked in tandem with Goose as my SDIT for over a year and a half and has gone on countless adventures with me since he has given me the ability and confidence to be independent. After his B&T which is approximately 6 months, we then focused on his Obedience and Public Access Training for about 18 months, yes, it takes about 2+ years to train a Service Dog so it’s not just the Financial investment, the time, veterinary, and additional expenses involved -which is why it’s so important for those who are **Not Disabled (per definition by the ADA) to refrain from Falsifying their Pet as a Service Dog (which is a Misdemeanor). Not only does it put those in the Disabled community at risk and make access more difficult, but it confuses establishments as they become confused about Service Dogs and ADA Regulations.
Jarvis has the sweetest personality and has made such a huge impact on my life. He provides mobility assistance by providing forward momentum, picking up items, pressing the handicap button, bracing/support, DPT, finding family members during times of high anxiety, and has been learning the additional tasks that Goose has acquired over the years. This is why I always say that our dogs are always in training since there’s always something they can learn and there’s always a “teachable moment”.
